About Earn The Drawer

Open kitchen drawer with dividers holding a peeler, scissors, whisk, measuring spoons, can opener and paring knife

Earn The Drawer started with a drawer that wouldn’t close.

Like most small kitchens, ours was full of single-purpose gadgets bought on impulse — each one promised to change cooking forever, and most of them got used twice. Meanwhile, the five tools we reached for every day were fighting for the same six inches of space.

So we started applying a simple rule to every kitchen purchase: a gadget has to earn its drawer space. It has to solve a real, recurring problem. It has to be faster than the knife, the pan, or the workaround it replaces — including the time it takes to wash it. And it has to fit a real small kitchen, not a showroom kitchen with an island the size of a parking spot.

This site is where we publish that homework. We are a small, independent, research-based publication for renters and small-apartment cooks. We compare specifications, analyze thousands of owner reviews (especially the one-star ones — that’s where the truth lives), cross-check sizing against the appliances people actually own, and tell you plainly what each product is bad at.

Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy through them. That is how we keep the lights on, and it’s why our verdicts have to stay honest: a reader who buys a bad gadget on our say-so doesn’t come back, and neither does their trust. Read exactly how we research and how we make money — we hide nothing.

Small kitchen? Good. You’re our kind of cook.
